Honey!

  • What is the difference between organic honey and raw honey? I am going to make the apple muffins and wondering if I have to have the raw honey?

  • Hi there! No, you don’t need raw honey for the recipe. Organic honey will do just fine! Raw honey is unpasteurized and comes straight from the honeycomb (after being filtered) so it maintains some of its antioxidants and nutrients it would otherwise lose during pasteurization. It can sometimes be hard to find in the grocery store but if you have a local farmer’s market, you can usually find raw honey there! Local honey also has the benefit of helping with seasonal allergies – fun fact! Otherwise, organic honey without added ingredients is a great option 🙂 Enjoy the muffins!

  • Thanks Lia! That is good to know. My boss actually has honeybees so I can get raw honey from him, but in the off season I am glad to know it’s okay to use organic honey.

  • Oh wow you’re so lucky! Definitely take advantage of that – you can also ask if he has honeycomb (a fun and delicious decoration for a yogurt parfait) or bee pollen (fancy addition to granola or salads and high in antioxidants).
