Hi again, Tracy! I hear you on not wanting an argument at dinner time. We’ve had lots of parents-of-picky-eaters in P20 in the past, and while each child is so different…here are a some ideas:
1) Add cauliflower rice to white rice (mix together and drizzle with olive oil or butter) along with any protein for dinner – one meal that the entire family may enjoy?
2) The honey dijon chicken one sheet pan dinner is often a hit
3) The go-to chicken is often a crowd pleaser too
4) Smoothies – an easy way to sneak in veggies (frozen cauliflower and zucchini are nearly flavorless when added to fruit)
5) The Banana Bread and Collagen N’ice cream are usually super kid-friendly
Happy to send more ideas if you find them helpful! xx

Hi Ann, Glad you are listening to what your body prefers when it comes to protein powder – it’s your best guide! That said, I typically recommend slowly easing into collagen as too much at once can cause bloating for some people. For example, you could try one serving (generally a scoop) per day, either all at once or split into two β€œdoses.” If that feels great, you can always try a scoop in the AM and one PM. The quality/brand is also super important – you want to be sure that any collagen consumed is all pasture-raised cows or wild-caught fish. It sounds like whey protein is working well for you though so feel free to stick with that route unless you’d like to give collagen another try. How are you feeling in general on P20? Cheers to the last week!

Hi Lisa,
I have tried the collagen based protein powders and found they cause a lot of bloat and stomach upset. Have you had anyone with this experience? I can tolerate whey and will have to try the Naken protein powder. I have not had a lot of luck with the plant based protein powders – often they are chalky.

Sorry – not Vital Proteins (although they make a good one, too!). I meant Primal Collagen Fuel in Chocolate Coconut. Let me know what you think!

Hi Craig! My favorite protein powder is Vital Proteins Collagen Fuel in Chocolate Coconut. I’ve also heard good things about Naked (if you can tolerate whey), Terrasoul and Sunwarrior. Some other grab-and-go protein options include Chomps grass-fed beef jerky, organic hard boiled eggs, and Justin’s peanut butter or almond butter squeeze packs (unsweetened). Let me know if you need any more ideas!

I have a major sweet tooth so I wanted to share my nutritionist-approved snacks and desserts for satisfying your sweet tooth while you’re on P20!

– Trader Joe’s makes a 100% dark chocolate bar. It’s not for the faint of heart but it’s a savior if you’re a dark chocolate fan and can handle the intensity. I love dipping in almond butter πŸ™‚
– Dates stuffed with peanut butter
– Smart Sweets Swedish fish
– N’ice cream https://prescribe-nutrition.com/recipes/collagen-powered-banana-nice-cream/
– Frozen grapes
– Hot chocolate made with Primal Kitchen Collagen Fuel in Chocolate Coconut and hot water
– Chocolate Hazelnut Fat Balls https://prescribe-nutrition.com/recipes/chocolate-hazelnut-fat-balls/

Hi Lisa! You’re definitely setting yourself up by planning ahead – love it! Here are some suggestions…
1. To keep lunches gluten-free, try making “bowls” or salads instead of sandwiches or switch to a grain-free tortilla like a cassava or coconut tortilla to make a wrap! Siete brand makes great ones but you can sometimes find cheaper options at the store, too.
2. As you plan meals, keep the P20 Plate and P20 pyramid in mind (you can find these under Resources). We also have a Savvy Snacking handout (under week two) you can peek ahead and use for ideas!
3. If you like crackers and pita chips, try some whole-food, gluten-free crackers like Simple Mills or Mary’s Gone Crackers and dip in hummus or other yummy P20-approved dips πŸ™‚
4. For a warm, chocolatey ski-trip drink, I love mixing Primal Kitchen’s Collagen Fuel in Chocolate Coconut with hot water and drinking it like hot chocolate!
5. For protein on the go, hard-boiled eggs, jerky (Chomps is a good brand – they use grass-fed beef and have no added sugar), almonds, or nut butters are all good options.

Hopefully this helps!
